What is The Midnight Palace all about?

For starters, we love Classic Hollywood. There are many wonderful sites around the internet with a similar focus, but we like to think that we stand apart. The one thing that we pride ourselves on is being a down-to-earth website. We love to hear from all of our visitors around the world and we welcome their suggestions. The goal of The Midnight Palace is to be the #1 go-to source for all things Classic Hollywood. In addition to that, we want to branch out to encompass everything and anything from the era.

How did you come up with the name "The Midnight Palace"?

It's a simple concept, but one that we feel is very fitting to what we do. The "Palace" portion is an obvious nod to the luxurious movie palaces of yesteryear. Sadly, very few of those grand theaters are still in existence. The "Midnight" portion is a bit deeper. Midnight is literally the one moment that joins "yesterday" and "today". So, in essence, "The Midnight Palace" is the notion of perpetuating that moment. It's a way that you can visit the past from the present.

How long has the site been online?

The Midnight Palace launched in June of 2006.

What is your coverage range?

We cover silents through the golden age. However, we're aware that many great classics can fall out of this range so we often make exceptions.

Can I have my website link added to the "Links" section?

Absolutely! As long as the website is relevant to our focus, we'd be more than happy to exchange links. We also make some exceptions and will add a non-classic related link in the appropriate section. If you'd like to request a link exchange, send an email to Gary Sweeney via the contact page.

I'd like to write for the website. How can I go about it?

Submitting your idea to us is easier than you think! We pride ourselves on being a large collective of classic cinema lovers. With that in mind, it is important to us that the ideas and opinions of our visitors be expressed. The guidelines for submitting your idea are as follows: Movie Reviews must follow the format of our current reviews (opening paragraph, review, overview of the DVD if applicable and conclusion). Articles must not contain accusations or slander of any kind towards a particular star or movie. We reserve the right to edit any submitted content if needed. If you would like to submit photographs to correspond with your writing, you are encouraged to do so, otherwise, we will provide them for you. If your idea is approved, you can submit your writing(s) to us and it will be added to the site. You will then receive a link to the piece that you are free to send to others. We appreciate you checking out the interviews! One of the things we hold in the highest regard is the privacy of our friends. We consider each of our interviewees friends and will not divulge their contact info at any time.

What is the purpose of the login form on the website?

The login form is optional. If you'd like to become an actual registered member of The Midnight Palace, you can do so by clicking the "Register" link on the login form and creating an account. From that point forward, when you visit the site and login, you will show as a "Member" under Who's Online? If you do not wish to register, that is entirely to your discretion and you will show up as a "Guest". In the future, we may include some features on the website which will only be visible to registered users. Registering is free and only takes a moment.
